Join us for an epic ocean adventure!
On the west coast of Vancouver Island is the beautiful little fishing town of Ucluelet. We’ve been guiding out there for many years now and it has quickly become one of our most popular fishing trips.
The rugged west coast offers some amazing scenery as well as top notch fishing. Bald eagles, sea lions, whales, and bears are only some of the amazing creatures you can see while on your trip.
We spend most of our days fishing on the offshore banks if weather allows us. These banks are where all the bait seems to congregate. And because of that, we have millions of migrating salmon passing through, which makes for some action packed days of fishing. And when the fish are around, it is not uncommon to hook into more than 50 salmon each day.
Also on the banks is healthy population of Halibut. So, after your arms are tired from bringing in so many salmon, we can then take a break and anchor up for Halibut.
Salmon sizes range from 12 – 35 Lbs for Chinook and 6 – 20 Lbs for Coho. And Halibut range anywhere from 10 – 100 Lbs, with even bigger fish being reported.
So if this trip interests you, drop me a line and we can get started planning your vacation. Make sure to have lots to eat and drink, as well as a good nights sleep before hand, as you’re going to need your energy for this trip.
A Day Fishing on the West Coast
The day usually starts with everyone meeting at the boat. Since we supply all the gear needed, all you would need to show up with is your fishing license and your lunch & drinks.
Your day trip will be an 8 hour dock to dock day. Or, your half day trip will be 4 hours dock to dock.(usually in the afternoon) Your guide will give a brief instructional on procedures and you will be on your way
At the end of your fishing day, your guide will clean your fish and bag for transport .
Or, if you request, your catch can be filleted, portion cut, vacuum packed, flash frozen and stored until your departure day. This is at an extra cost, but is highly recommended.

A spacious fishing deck is also a great feature. Lots of room outside to run the lines and fight your trophy fish.
The 200 Hp Yamaha four stroke will get you to the fish and the 9.9 high thrust Yamaha will make for a quiet, smooth day of trolling. It is rigged with the latest electronics to help put you on the fish.
The JRC radar will make sure you have a safe adventure even in low visibility days and our Lowrance Gps/fishfinder will keep you on track for your journey and help locate the fish. Also, two Vhf radios will keep us in touch with other boats and is another safety feature.
Scotty electric downriggers help get the lures down to the fish and keep them in the strike zone. And our planer boards will help spread the lines out when fishing with numerous lines. All in all, the boat is rigged for a comfortable day of fishing.
Rods & Reels
And for our Westcoast charters we use 10-1/2ft shimano rods with Islander mooching reels and Berkley Big Game fishing line.

Preparing for your trip
Get ready for your ocean voyage
Visiting the West Coast
The old village of Ucluelet, on the rugged west coast shoreline, is a fishermans paradise. Watch the sun set to the West at the end of a day ocean fishing.
Packlist
It is much cooler on the west coast than the interior part of the province, so we recommend you come prepared. We’ve provided a sample packlist to help you with your arrangements.
Fishing License Tag
All anglers must have a licence to fish tidal (salt) waters in British Columbia. Find out more about purchasing your ocean fishing licence through the government of Canada website.
Directions
We will meet at the boat basin parking lot before your trip. When driving on Peninsula Rd, Ucluelet, you will turn down Hemlock St. There is a huge parking lot at the bottom of the street. 200 Hemlock St. Our boat is on the main dock at slip #17
Trip Planning
Since this has become our most popular destination, we recommend that you book your charter as well as accomodations up to a year in advance.
Most of our guests are returning clients who will book for next season as soon as they get off the boat. So, plan early for this one.
Getting There
If flying, you would fly into Nanaimo or Comox and rent a car from there. It is then about a 2-½ drive across the island highway till you arrive in Ucluelet.
If driving, you would drive to Vancouver and catch either the Horseshoe Bay or Tsawwassen Ferry to Nanaimo. Then it’s about a 2-½ hour drive to Ucluelet.
