Summer is in full swing and so are we!!
One boat on the west coast and 4 boats going strong in the Kootenays.
Here’s the latest reports:
Kootenay Lake
The lake has been fishing well lately, despite the hot weather. Our guys have been doing mostly early morning trips to beat the heat, but have been very successful. Most morning tips have caught a bunch of Rainbows and a few Bull Trout each day. The fish are still gorging on Kokanee fry, so they are remaining active. We’ll see how long that can keep up, but for now, we’ll take it.
Rainbows between 2-4 Lbs and Bull Trout between 2 -8 Lbs have been caught lately.
Hopefully with a bit of rain in the forecast, the temps will remain manageable and we will continue to see some good summer fishing.
Note: the algae has started to accumulate on the fishing lines, making it a bit hard to manage. So, constant cleaning of the fishing line and downrigger lines is necessary.
July/August looks like another couple busy months, so we’ll see what happens.

West Coast Fishing:
We have been off to a good start this season. The end of June saw some of the biggest fish so far.
The squid were in the harbour and so were the Salmon. Making for some exciting fishing right close to home.
In the past couple weeks the salmon have moved on and we were travelling much more distance to find them, however since the offshore opening on July 15th, we have now opened up way more options and the fishing has become more consistent.
Halibut and Ling cod fishing has remained fairly steady throughout.
It’s been a weird season for bookings this year, with a few cancellations and some uncertainty. However, we will manage to get through.
In saying that, we may have the odd 1 day opening or afternoon trips still available, so feel free to reach out if you will be in the area. Always nice to visit Ucluelet and Tofino in the summer.
Prime time is among us, so stay tuned for some crazy stories to come.
What are they biting on???
On the lake, it’s been a mixed bag. With the water temps being warm, the fish are scattered throughout the water column. Lux Flies are still producing on the choppy days. Numbers 201,210,215,226 have been our favourite. And on the calm days, we have been catching a lot on the Gibbs crocs. Brass/firestripe or firewing has been best. Also getting a lot of Bull Trout on the Gibbs STS flasher followed by the green spatterback hoochie.
On the Ocean, it’s been a bunch of the usual suspects. Our favourite Oki flashers in the Blue footloose color paired with the cookies & cream or herring aid 3″ kingfisher spoon has been best. Since the bait is small, the spoons seem to be producing best. Also Skinny G spoons in blue/chrome or green/chrome (killy magee) seem to be working well.
And for the Ling cod, we’ve been killing it with the Gibbs Jumbo anchovy. Jigging the rock piles has been best. Spinning rods for Ling Cod has become a fan favourite.
