And so it continues………
June is here, and is almost over already. Wow!! Guess the fishings been so good, we haven’t had tiime to post.
Well, here you go:
Kootenay Lake
The fishing has remained solid throughout the month. The Kokanee fry have entered the lake and are bubbling all around the creek mouths and shoreline. So, you know what that means!
Feeding frenzy……. There’s been some crazy days again in June. The Rainbows and especially the Bull Trout have been feeding heavily on the fry. Just look around for the bubbles. If you see the fry jumping, make sure to take a pass through that area.
Just like when the ant hatch happened in April and May, the fish get into a frenzy and stuff themselves. And so, similar to the ant hatch frenzy, we have noticed some crazy good days of fishing, followed by a few slower days as the fish are full.
A couple of our best days had over 25 fish to the boat. Mostly Rainbows, but definitely getting more Bull Trout than previous months. Rainbows up to 5 Lbs and Bull Trout up to 10 Lbs have been caught lately.
May was awesome and June has been a blast. So, hopefully we can continue some decent days into July.
As long as the water temp doesn’t get too warm, we should see consistent fishing throughout. And, since the winter months, which are usually slower months, but past winter remained awesome, maybe we can continue to have a consistent summer fishery.
Stay tuned…….
What are they biting on???
The Rainbows are crushing the Gibbs crocs on most days. Especially when it’s calm and the bucktails aren’t as effective. The standard Brass/fire stripe spoon has been deadly.
And on the windy days, the Lux flies are still producing well. Lucky numbers have been: #210, 25, 221, 226.
And the Bull Trout have been coming in on the surface with the crocs, as well as on the downrigger. Since the fry have entered the lake, our 3″ Lyman plugs have been working well, both on the surface and on the down riggers. Our other favourite for the Bull Trout has been the Gibbs STS flasher followed by the green pistachio or green spatterback hoochie.
Fish are chomping and it’s still a good time to go fishing. In fact, any time is a good time to go fishing.
Let’s get out there!!
Tight Lines……
